Design Approach

Working With Minnie

My approach to interior design is shaped by the belief that a home should feel meaningful, inspiring and nurturing. Beyond aesthetics, good design responds to how a house is used day to day, the character of the building itself, and the atmosphere its owners wish to create.

Every project begins with listening — to the rhythms of daily life, to what draws you instinctively, and to the story already present within the house. Whether working on a long-loved family home or a newly acquired property, my role is to bring clarity, coherence and a sense of ease to the process, shaping interiors that feel well-crafted and authentic.

The principles below underpin all of my work and guide each project from first conversation through to completion.

The 4 cornerstones of my approach to Interior design

Storytelling

Every room tells a story. A home should be a reflection of the people who live there and the ideas that inspire them. My approach is to curate surroundings that are deeply personal, uplifting and comforting, fostering a sense of belonging and allowing you to feel truly at home.

Balance

Balancing harmony and contrast is a hallmark of my work and key to crafting a beautiful interior. A well crafted room feels both grounded and dynamic. Like a twist of lime in your whisky, I love to use colour to create that touch of tension which stops an otherwise beautiful interior feeling flat.

Genius Loci

Crafting spaces which respond to the locality is at the heart of my design process. Respecting the essence of the building and its environment is at the core of every project, weaving together the narrative of the building and the people who occupy it.

Practicality

Every design starts with a practical layout that facilitates the activities carried out in the home and supports the way the occupant lives. The practical elements of a home should feel intuitive and effortless, creating an authentic and life-enhancing environment.

How I Work

I work exclusively on private residential interiors from my studio on the Welsh border of Herefordshire. Projects involve close collaboration with clients and are supported by a small number of trusted design colleagues and craftspeople. This intentionally small-scale, one-to-one way of working allows for a thoughtful, unhurried process and ensures consistency, discretion and clarity of vision.

Typically, projects involve working across multiple rooms within the home, creating cohesive interiors where layout, colour and material choices are considered in relation to the composition of the house as a whole.

The design process centres on how you experience your home day to day, rather than focusing solely on how it looks - how rooms flow, how they accomodate daily routines, and how they make you feel and behave. The initial consultation is a core element of the process; it is an opportunity to explore your personal narrative - what matters to you, what has shaped your tastes, and how you would like your home to feel.

Projects are developed through a combination of video calls and strategic site visits. This approach allows for flexibility while maintaining the benefit of clear communication combined with personal, face-to-face discussion.
